  • Soto wins the second fight with Yamamoto

Juan Soto vs. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was one of the more exciting matchups heading into Game 2, considering Soto wasn't in the lineup when Yamamoto was outstanding against the Yankees in the Bronx in June.

Yamamoto got Soto to groundout in the first inning, but it took seven pitches, giving Soto an early look at Yamamoto's fastball, curveball and splitter. Another long battle ensued in the 3rd inning, and this time Soto took Yamamoto's 6th pitch – a 95 mph heater down and in – and got deep into right field to tie the game.

Breaking news: This Soto guy is pretty good at hitting.

  • This was a completely missed goal for Yamamoto against Soto. Yamamoto's command wasn't great today, but his skills were good enough to keep him out of trouble until…

  • Aaron Judge flies out to end the inning and we're tied at the end of the third. Yamamoto has 52 pitches.

  • Yankees 1, Dodgers 1

Juan Soto. After recovering a ball in two strikes and fouling another, he fires a fastball from the inside corner into the right-field stands.

  • Carlos Rodón gets out of the inning without further damage, with a really nice play off a swinging bunt from Will Smith to end the inning. The Yankees' roster still has a bit of work to do now.

  • Edman again!

What a short-term acquisition Tommy Edman was for the Dodgers.

Remember, he came to LA along with Michael Kopech as part of the three-way trade with the White Sox and Cardinals.

  • Dodgers 1, Yankees 0

Tommy Edman against left-handers: a very good batsman. The NLCS MVP blasts a home run into left field and the Dodgers are up early in Game 2.

  • Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitches a scoreless second inning and is now at 35 pitches. He's gotten deep in counts and allowed a few walks, but still no decent contact from the Yankees. He also only threw two splinters.

  • Freddie Freeman received a nice ovation upon his return to the plate before popping out to end the inning.

  • And that's a scoreless first inning for Carlos Rodón with three outs in the air. Mookie Betts scored the first score of the game on a drive down the opposite field line, but that was it. 13 pitches for Rodón.

  • The Yankees' first three batters got a full count against Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but he struck out the centerpiece of the lineup, including a strikeout against Aaron Judge, and pitched a scoreless first inning. He has 21 pitches with four batters, but the Dodgers typically place more emphasis on run prevention than yardage.

  • Can the Yankees take their walks tonight?

There were only two unintentional walks throughout World Series Game 1: a Juan Soto BB in the first inning and the game-winning free pass from Gavin Lux in the bottom of the 10th inning, which gave the Dodgers' top brass a chance to finish things off bring. Game 2's first batter, Gleyber Torres, just walked to start the night. That's a key factor for the Yanks, who have run 70 times more than any other club this year.

  • Yoshinobu Yamamoto fires a 98 mph fastball at Gleyber Torres, heading into Game 2 of the 2024 World Series after a four-minute Ice Cube delay.

Can the Dodgers take a 2-0 lead when the series goes to New York, or will the Yankees erase it and secure home-field advantage? Let's find out.

  • Ice Cube is now rapping in the outfield at Dodger Stadium. Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo appears to be having fun.
