World Series 2024: Dodgers-Yankees tickets are among the most expensive of all time

A World Series pitting two of Major League Baseball's glamorous franchises against each other is shaping up to be the most expensive in recent years.

Fans can spend over $1,514 to watch the Yankees and Dodgers — and not even get a seat. That's the lowest price on TickPick for a general admission ticket to Monday's Game 3 at Yankee Stadium.

As of Wednesday, the average resale price for tickets to Friday's Game 1 at Dodger Stadium was $1,731 at SeatGeek, $1,703 at TickPick and $1,682 at Vivid Seats. This makes the 2024 World Series the most expensive of all time, said TickPick.

The cheapest Game 1 tickets TickPick sold on Wednesday were a set of six seats along the left field line, costing $951 each. That's more than double the cheapest Game 1 ticket sold for any of the previous five World Series, TickPick content director Kyle Zorn said on Twitter Wednesday morning.

This World Series is on track to be the best-selling in StubHub's 24-year history, the company said. As of Tuesday morning, StubHub's sales revenue had already surpassed final sales revenue from last year's Diamondbacks-Rangers World Series, even though Friday's opening game was still more than 72 hours away.

“This is completely unthinkable,” StubHub spokesman Adam Budelli told Yahoo Sports.

Rising resale ticket prices reflect the appeal of a Dodgers-Yankees fall classic. These two market giants have combined for 63 World Series appearances and won 34 championships, 27 by the Yankees and seven by the Dodgers.

Also impressive is the star power that both the Dodgers and Yankees boast. With Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, the teams have a total of five former league MVPs, a World Series record, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

“It's kind of the perfect storm to drive record television numbers, and I'm sure it will be record numbers from a ticket sales perspective,” Budelli said.

The demand for tickets is particularly impressive considering that Dodger Stadium, with 56,000 seats, is baseball's second-highest capacity venue, and Yankee Stadium, with 46,537 seats, is sixth. The boost was provided by Ohtani-crazy Japan, which, according to Budelli, bought the most tickets of any country except the United States

When asked if Dodgers-Yankees was the most attractive World Series matchup, Budelli said he thought it was for TV ratings. From a ticket demand standpoint, he wondered whether a Subway Series between the Yankees and Mets might have been even more lucrative.

Budelli said: “It would have been very interesting to have both fan bases within walking distance of both stadiums by subway and taxi.”
