“Woman of the Hour” has been dethroned from Netflix’s top 10 list by a new horror film

Anna Kendrick's excellent directorial debut “Woman of the Hour” has been at the top of Netflix's Top 10 list for some time, but it was just displaced by something more reminiscent of Halloween, a new horror film called “Don't Move” .

I'd never heard of it, it doesn't star anyone I've heard of, but it immediately went to No. 1 on the service, indicating strong interest in the new 90-minute feature film about an attempted murder. The first thing I do when I see something pop-up like this is check if it's any good, and 72% on Rotten Tomatoes is solid, if well outside the list of the top 10 horror films of the year. An initial audience rating of 51% isn't the best, although that's only a few dozen reviews so far. Here's the film's somewhat interesting premise:

“When a murderer injects her with a paralyzing agent, the woman must flee, fight and hide before her body shuts down completely.”

It's not quite the same, but it reminds me a little of Megan Fox's surprisingly good thriller Till Death, in which she has to escape murder while tied to her dead husband and dragging him around. This has a critic score of 90% and an audience score of 54%. I'm sorry, dear audience, you were wrong.

Co-directed by Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, Don't Move seems to be the most well-known film. However, it is produced by horror legend Sam Raimi. Looking at the cast, I have to take it back: I know the lead actress, Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica Dutton in Yellowstone, even though I didn't know her name. It also stars horror veteran Finn Wittrock, who appeared alongside Ratched in 31 episodes of American Horror Story.

Honestly, 72% is probably enough to get me to watch it as it at least sounds like a good concept. I also have to watch “Woman of the Hour.” The rest of the list mostly consists of standard children's films like Kung Fu Panda 4, Sing, Pets and Pixels. Super Mario Bros. is off the list! This has almost never happened!

We'll see if Don't Move attracts enough of an audience to stay at the top for a while, but given how spooky the season is, it could be the vibe people are looking for. I miss when Netflix made a series of Fear Street movies at the time, we need more of them.
