Why Tom Hanks and Robin Wright Didn't “Hang Out” While Filming 'Forrest Gump'

It's been 30 years since Tom Hanks and Robin Wright starred in the Oscar-winning classic Forrest Gump, but it's only recently that they've been spending time on set together.

The couple and the 1994 film's director Robert Zemeckis recently reunited for the upcoming drama “Here.” The trio will always be associated with “Forrest Gump,” but Wright shared that she and Tom Hanks weren't able to talk to each other much while filming that film.

“We were running around making this movie, and every lunch break Tom would run out, just run to wherever they could grab him, so we didn't really have time to hang out,” Wright explained on TODAY, Oct. 28, playing up Hanks appears in the film as his character Forrest Gump.

However, she said that they spent quality time together while filming “Here” and “got to know each other as adults.”

Wright also pointed out that she and Hanks had worked separately with Zemeckis since “Forrest Gump,” but “Here” represented a chance for them all to get back together.

“It was literally like getting the band back together,” she said.

“Here” is a comprehensive story about different generations of people, past and future, living on one property. Wright said it was a no-brainer to take part in the project along with Hanks and Zemeckis, who also wrote it.

“I would do anything with Bob and Tom,” she said. “Then he called and said, ‘I don’t know if it’s going to work. This has never been done before.' And we all just said, 'Let's get in.'”

Wright said the film touches people.

“They are relatable human experiences that we all have and that move before us, in this one place called 'Here,'” she said.
