Donald Trump defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris to become the election 47th President of the United States. Four years after leaving the White House, Donald Trump celebrated his comeback early Wednesday with a victory speech to an enthusiastic crowd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. Surrounded by members of his family and other Republican leaders, Trump said: “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate.”
Trump also praised his vice president, JD Vancewho will be the next Vice President of the United States. “I want to be the first to congratulate – now I can say it Vice President Elect JD Vance. And his remarkable and beautiful wife, Usha Vance,” Trump said.
JD Vance's election as Donald Trump's running mate in July confirmed his rapid rise within the Republican Party. Many analysts now see him as the leading figure in Trump's “Make America Great Again” movement and a strong contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028. But who is JD Vance, the new vice president of the United States and Trump's likely heir?

Vance began his career as a venture capitalist and lawyer but became a well-known figure after the publication of his memoirs. Hillbilly Elegyin which he details his experiences as a member of the white working class. The memoir was life-changing, as Vance was soon elected as a Republican to the U.S. Senate in 2022, representing the state of Ohio.
Early life and education
James David Vance was born James Donald Bowman on August 2, 1984. His parents, Don and Bev Bowman, have Scottish-Irish ancestry. When he was a young child, his parents divorced and his mother later changed his middle name to David. He eventually adopted his mother's maiden name, Vance, as his last name. His mother struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, and Vance was raised primarily by his maternal grandparents, who moved to Middletown from the Appalachian region of eastern Kentucky.

JD Vance graduated from Middletown High School in 2003 and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Iraq during the Iraq War. After his military service, he pursued higher education at Ohio State University, graduating in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in political science and philosophy. Vance then attended Yale Law School and received his law degree in 2013. He met his wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, at Yale Law School and married in 2014 in a ceremony that included a Hindu ritual. Together they have three children. After law school, he built his career working at the law firm Sidley Austin LLP and later moved to positions at investment firms based in California and other locations.
