    While the votes are still being counted, the mystery and tension has faded – former President Donald Trump has been re-elected and will become president in January.

    Here's what you should know about the transition of power.

    What were the results of the 2024 presidential election?

    As of early Wednesday morning, Donald Trump was expected to have won Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. With the two swing states, Trump surpassed the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency against Vice President Kamala Harris. While the votes are still being counted, it also appears that Trump will win the popular vote.

    Trump is the first president since Grover Cleveland 132 years ago to lose office and win again four years later.

    When will the election be confirmed?

    Congress will validate the election results on January 6, 2025.

    When is Inauguration Day?

    Trump will take the oath of office around noon on January 20, 2025 and then officially assume power.

    What is the presidential oath of office?

    The President-elect takes the following oath under Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:

    “I solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully discharge the office of President of the United States and to preserve, protect and defend to the best of my ability the Constitution of the United States.”

    The Vice President-elect will be sworn in before the President-elect and will repeat the same oath of office as U.S. Senators, Representatives, and other federal employees:

    “I solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will show her true faith and loyalty; that I will undertake this obligation voluntarily and without any obligation.” and that I will perform well and faithfully the duties of the office which I am about to assume: “So help me, God.”
