PITTSBURGH – The NFL trade deadline has passed and the Pittsburgh Steelers were one of the most active teams at the deadline. They acquired wide receiver Mike Williams and edge rusher Preston Smith, expanding two spaces on each side of the football.

Williams finally ends the saga of finding another wide receiver. Meanwhile, Smith gives the Steelers some depth at edge rusher after injuries regularly hampered the position.

This means the Steelers now have a new WR2 and a new deep pass rusher to utilize. How much better has the team just gotten?

They only gave up two third-day picks to upgrade two spots the team needed to improve. Additionally, the Steelers got deeper at both positions. Williams and Smith could very well be rental properties. However, if Pittsburgh can translate this into postseason success, it will be worth it for general manager Omar Khan and his front office.
