What Bills QB Josh Allen said after Tyler Bass' game-winning kick against the Dolphins

1 minute, 56 seconds Read

The Buffalo Bills locker room was almost universally emotional following the team's thrilling Week 9 victory over the Miami Dolphins, with their leader perhaps most visibly wearing his heart on his sleeve.

Veteran kicker Tyler Bass made an appearance in anticipation of the current iteration of the kicker in the run-up to the final moments of the contest, going two-for-two on field goals, missing an extra point and hitting the post on another. Ultimately, he would find redemption when he rushed for a franchise-record 61 yards in the game's final seconds to secure a 30-27 Buffalo victory over the Dolphins.

Quarterback Josh Allen acknowledged his teammate after the game and reflected emotionally on Bass' journey to that moment.

“So proud of him,” Allen said. “So happy for him.” My little speech after the game was emotional. Just the trials and tribulations he's been through this year, obviously he missed one early in the day and hit the bar on another. He could have easily put it in the tank. A 61-yard field goal to win a game against a division rival is what stories are made of. I love him, I respect him so much. Everyone in this locker room is so happy for him. He’s our guy.”

Bass finished the game three from three thanks to his field goals, including the 61-yarder, but missed the aforementioned extra point, his third missed PAT of the season. He has also missed three field goals this year.

Bass' performance has been a buzz all season, as he had made just 80% of his field goals and 92.9% of his extra points this year in Week 9. At one point, the Bills even added a kicker to their practice squad to challenge Bass for the job. The veteran would hold on to the job, and Buffalo showed its confidence by giving him a chance to win the game for it in Week 9; He obviously delivered.

Although the Bills were open to a move, they clearly didn't want to part ways with Bass and expressed their confidence in him throughout the season despite his struggles. His record-breaking game-winning kick in Week 9 should give the 27-year-old the confidence boost he needs going forward.
