Jarrod Bowen scored a controversial last-second penalty to give West Ham United a 2-1 Premier League victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

Crysencio Summerville scored his first goal in a West Ham shirt as the team climbed past their visitors to 13th place in the table with 11 points after nine games, level with 14th Manchester United.

Although Man United's defeat was only their second in 10 games across all competitions, it will put renewed pressure on coach Erik ten Hag as they have won just one of their last eight games.

“Three times this season we feel injustice,” Ten Hag told the BBC. “We have to score, we created so many chances. We should have been two or three ahead.”

“In the second half we forced it but we let them into the game. When you lose 1-0 you need a big personality and strong character from the team and they showed resilience to get back into the game. “Unfair and unjust the way we conceded goals.” the penalty.

Bowen netted in the 92nd minute, converting from the penalty spot after a lengthy VAR review revealed Matthijs de Ligt had grazed the leg of Danny Ings, a decision that left Ten Hag shaking his head.

“I spoke to (the officers),” Ten Hag said. “But the decision has been made. There’s no going back and that’s football.”

Bowen shot a low penalty just wide of the post, which went past the hands of André Onana, which bounced in the right direction.

West Ham were fortunate not to concede a goal in the first half, which was dominated by their northern opponents, but were much better in the second after coach Julen Lopetegui brought on Summerville and Tomás Soucek.

Summerville got them on the scoreboard in the 74th minute when he fired at full speed from Ings' deflected shot.

Seven minutes later, Casemiro silenced the home fans when Diogo Dalot headed over from a cross, Joshua Zirkzee assisted and the Brazilian midfielder nodded home at the back post.

However, the cheering of the traveling fans was short-lived and after twelve minutes of added time they had to regret another defeat.

Ten Hag's side will regret missing their chances, especially in the first half, starting with a long-range shot that Alejandro Garnacho crashed off the crossbar within two minutes.

Hammers keeper Lukasz Fabianski made a fine save in first-half stoppage time, fingertip-stopping Casemiro's header from Christian Eriksen's free-kick.

West Ham had narrowly missed early in the second half when Michail Antonio sprinted towards goal and Onana rushed out to stop him, the goalkeeper taking a blow to the head.

Onana required medical attention for several minutes before play resumed.
