Argentine prosecutors announced today that Payne may have been “semi- or completely unconscious” when he fell from a hotel balcony.

The star fell 45 feet from the third floor into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Argentine capital yesterday before medics confirmed his death.

Before Payne's death, hotel staff frantically called 911 about “an aggressive male, possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” who was “destroying his room.”

Investigators confirmed that a number of substances were seized from the hotel room “indicative of previous alcohol and drug use.”

According to the BBC, hotel guests reported hearing “violent noises” and assumed there was construction work going on in the room.

Photos have also emerged from inside his luxury suite that appear to show a broken television, surfaces covered in aluminum foil and white powder, and burn marks on the wooden surface.

A preliminary report into the pop star's death said: “All indications are” that Payne was alone when he died.

This is breaking news. More will follow.
