Weather Channel references Super Bowl LI during Milton report

As Hurricane Milton hit the Florida coast on Wednesday evening, many meteorologists on the ground reported on the people affected by the storm. In one instance, Paul Goodloe of the Weather Channel tried to emphasize a particular point with a reference to Super Bowl LI.

Goodloe reported from Sarasota as the eye of the storm passed overhead, discussing the characteristic temporary calm that settled over the area.

“We definitely enjoyed the little halftime show that Mother Nature gave us in Milton, but now we’re into the second half,” he said. “I have to remind everyone that you may still be under consideration right now. There is still a lot to do.”

To illustrate his point, Goodloe chose a metaphor about Super Bowl LI, in which the Patriots rallied from a 28-3 deficit to win the championship in overtime.

“I think back to the Atlanta Falcons winning the Super Bowl in the first half. “We know what happened in the second half when the Patriots came to life,” Goodloe said. “So don't sleep through the second half of Milton, and we're definitely concerned about this (storm) wave now.”

Milton made landfall near Sarasota, where winds exceeded 80 miles per hour and over 8 inches of rainfall was recorded. The storm reportedly left more than 3 million Floridians without power.
