All good things must come to an end.

Manchester City's 32-game Premier League unbeaten run is over after a poor performance resulted in a 2-1 defeat at in-form Bournemouth.

This incredible run represented a club record without suffering a defeat.

Saturday's defeat also means City have fallen to second place in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Liverpool.

“They (Bournemouth) had a different tempo today and we couldn’t handle it,” Guardiola said.

“We knew we couldn’t keep up with the intensity. We talked about it. It was an open game.”

“We had chances in the end but I congratulate Bournemouth on the win.”

Guardiola has overseen 488 games, winning 360, drawing 60 and losing 68 since being appointed City coach in 2016.

Ahead of Saturday's trip to Bournemouth, City suffered their last defeat at Aston Villa on December 6, 2023.

During that run they claimed 26 wins and six draws, scoring an impressive 80 goals and conceding just 26.

They collected 84 points and ended the 2023/24 season with the Premier League title – winning the top flight for the third time in a row.

Arsenal, who finished second last season, were the second-best team during City's unbeaten run.

However, the Gunners lost five times during this period, scored five fewer goals and only collected 71 points.

Liverpool were the third best performing team, collecting one point less than Arsenal as they won 21, drew seven and lost four.

“We would like to keep defending it, but how many games and months have we done… it's great,” Guardiola told Sky Sports when asked about going almost a year without defeat.

As impressive as City's form has been over the last 11 months, they are still a long way off the Premier League record.

In fact, City are fourth when it comes to longest unbeaten runs since the Premier League was founded in 1992/93.

Arsenal are at the top having played a total of 49 games without defeat between May 2003 and October 2004 – over three seasons.

The Gunners made it through the 2003–04 season without losing, becoming the only club to achieve this feat and earning the nickname “The Invincibles”.

Liverpool is second on this list with a 44-game unbeaten streak between January 2019 and February 2020, while Chelsea went 40 games without defeat from October 2004 to October 2005.
