The Buddy Holly Center invites the community to participate in a special “Día de los Muertos”-themed First Friday Art Trail on Friday in and around downtown Lubbock and other community venues.

First Friday Art Trail is a program of the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts. The event takes place on the first Friday of every month at venues across the city. Galleries, restaurants and shops are open free of charge to showcase local and regional visual and performing arts.

The First Friday Art Trail promotes art and outreach within the Lubbock community by providing an opportunity to enjoy art and entertainment. The Buddy Holly Center's FFAT hours are Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at 1801 Crickets Ave. instead of. Entry is free and refreshments are available.

Please note that no outside food or drinks are permitted in the venue.

The Buddy Holly Center's main exhibition is Celebración, the annual art exhibit exploring the history and meaning of the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.

This exhibition includes works by local and regional artists who have been invited to express their interpretation of Día de los Muertos by honoring deceased ancestors, friends and family members. Artists are not limited by choice of media or content, but are asked to focus on the unifying theme of the centuries-old Mexican ritual of commemorating the death of a loved one.

Over 40 artists contributed to this year's very colorful exhibition. Celebración continues at the Fine Arts Gallery until November 17th.
