Vanderbilt's Miles Capers stretches out and then returns to the sideline

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Vanderbilt edge rusher Miles Capers was placed on a flat board and carried off the field on a stretcher after he was injured while making a tackle midway through the second quarter of a 20-13 win over Kentucky on Saturday night wanted to carry out.

Capers was taken to a hospital for imaging as a precaution, but was seen back on the sideline later in the second half.

Capers got caught in a moving crowd of players attacking Wildcats running back Demie Sumo-Karngbaye and lay on the turf for a moment after the play. Vanderbilt medical staff immediately rushed to his aid as Kroger Field fell silent and players from both teams knelt and prayed as a plank of wood was brought over. Soon a stretcher was brought over.

Capers was stabilized and carefully placed on the stretcher before being rolled off the field.

Commodores players surrounded Capers in a show of support for the senior, who was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week on Monday for his performance in last week's historic 40-35 upset of top-ranked Alabama. Capers had a strip sack and a forced fumble that led to a touchdown in the win, and is tied for fourth on the team with 22 stops and is tied for the team lead with 4.5 tackles for loss.
