Utah Jazz vs. San Antonio Spurs: Preview, injury report, channel, start time

1 minute, 24 seconds Read

The Utah Jazz (0-4) face the San Antonio Spurs (1-3) on Halloween night at the Delta Center.

The start of the season was turbulent for the Jazz. Injuries, poor shooting and big losses have characterized the four games so far. But against the San Antonio Spurs, the Jazz have a chance to get a win against a similarly weak team.

For the Spurs, franchise cornerstone Victor Wembanyama has shot poorly to start the season, averaging just 16.5 points on 40.7% field shooting and 19.0% three-point shooting. Surprisingly, Jeremy Sochan leads the Spurs on offense, averaging 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and shooting 50% from the field.

Experienced offseason additions Harrison Barnes and Chris Paul have played well to start the season. Barnes, who spent the last seven seasons with the Sacramento Kings, has hit over 50% of his field shots in four games. Paul, entering his 20th season, remains a strong facilitator, averaging 7.3 assists at the start of the season.

Keyonte George's cold start to the season continues to be a concern for Utah. Despite averaging nearly two more assists per game than last season, George has shot just 26.2% from the field and 22.6% from three. Part of George's problems felt self-inflicted, as on-field frustrations led him to questionable shot selection and unnecessary turnovers. Luckily for Utah, San Antonio's 25th-ranked defense could provide an opportunity to start the season.

Both teams will have players on their injury reports tonight. For the Jazz, Taylor Hendricks and Isaiah Collier are both out, and Lauri Markkanen is listed as questionable. The Spurs have both Tre Jones and Devin Vassell out.
