USC Trojans quarterback Miller Moss' mother tweets about Lincoln Riley's bench move?

USC Trojans coach Lincoln Riley reportedly benched quarterback Miller Moss in favor of Jayden Maiava on Monday night, and a social media page apparently owned by Moss' mother expressed some thoughts on Riley's decision.

She published a quote from former US President Dwight D. Eisenhower that said: “The search for a scapegoat is the easiest of all hunting expeditions.”

Reading between the lines, it seems like Moss is implying that Riley is using her son as a scapegoat for USC's problems this season. The Trojans are currently ranked 4-5 in their first year as a full member of the Big Ten Conference. After a 26-21 loss to the Washington Huskies, Riley decided to start Maiava over Moss.

In nine games, Moss threw for 2,555 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He was also fired ten times.

He waited three full seasons at USC, two behind superstar Caleb Williams, before getting a chance to become a starter. Moss' patience seemed to pay off as the Trojans defeated the LSU Tigers in the first game of the year.

However, USC has struggled to finish games since the season opener. Not many expected the Trojans to have a losing record in November, but the team suffered losses to Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State, Maryland and Washington.

Riley apparently made the quarterback change during the bye week to give Maiava the most time possible to prepare. The Trojans host Nebraska on November 16th.

In addition to Moss' mother, USC wide receiver Ja'kobi Lane also appeared to share some of his thoughts on social media.

“The love I have for this team goes beyond football. I don't want to play on any other team in the country. I bleed cardinal and gold and don't need validation or anything like that. If you think “I'm not over the moon for Jayden and respectfully for him, you're very silly,” Lane wrote.

Lane currently leads all Trojans in catching five touchdowns from Moss. The wide receiver is third on the team with 368 yards.

With only three games remaining, the Trojans look to Maiava to provide a spark to close out the season. The Trojans must win two of three games against Nebraska, UCLA and Notre Dame to qualify for the bowl.
