US polls: Kamala Harris secures an unexpected lead over Trump in the Iowa polls

Vice President Kamala Harris is now leading former President Donald Trump in Iowa, according to a new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll. The poll shows Harris leading with 47% of likely voter support, compared to 44% for Trump. This shift comes just days before a crucial election with tight races in key battleground states.
The latest poll represents a significant change from previous months. In September, a similar poll showed Trump leading Harris by four points. In June, Trump had an 18-point lead over President Joe Biden, who was then considered the Democratic nominee.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.who switched from running as an independent to supporting Trump but remains on the Iowa ballot, has 3% support. This is down from 6% in September and 9% in June.
Libertarian presidential candidate Chase Oliver is at less than 1%, while 1% of respondents prefer another candidate, 3% are unsure and 2% declined to reveal their choice.
The Selzer & Co. poll surveyed 808 likely Iowa voters between Oct. 28 and Oct. 31, including those who have already voted or plan to vote. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
Both Trump and Harris have not campaigned in Iowa since the primaries and do not have campaign offices in the state. Their focus was on seven crucial battleground states that are expected to decide the election outcome.
A win for Harris in Iowa would be unexpected given the state's recent solid support for Trump, who won victories there in both 2016 and 2020.
