Tyrone Tracy, Jr. injury update, Deonte Banks and more from Another

New York Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., who led the Giants' rushing attack with 145 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown, suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter and will be placed in the league's protocol.

Tracy, who passed Devin Singletary as the team's RB1, now has two 100-yard rushing attempts in her career.

The first came in Week 5 against Seattle when he rushed for 129 yards on 18 carries. His appearance against the Steelers marks a new career high in carries and rushing yardage.

Tracy now leads the Giants' running backs with 73 carries for 376 yards and is tied with Singletary with two rushing touchdowns.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that second-year cornerback Deonte Banks was benched for another game with a lackluster performance.

Defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence II, who told reporters last week that the issue with Banks had been resolved, was unhappy with his younger teammate's performance on George Pickens' touchdown pass, which was not the case.

“He could have done better on that TD pass,” Lawrence told reporters.

Banks said he was benched for “missing tackles.”

Daboll, meanwhile, said they would wait to see if Banks would play against the Washington Commanders next week.

Arguably one of the biggest plays of the game was Steelers edge rusher TJ Watt's strip sack and fumble in the fourth quarter on a 3rd-and-7 with the ball on the Steelers' 19-yard line.

Watt came into the game virtually untouched, hit Jones, threw the ball free and recovered it at the Steelers' 28 to prevent a potential Giants scoring drive.

This play raised the question of why the Giants didn't try to pick on Watt with running back Devin Singletary, who got into a pattern on this play and ran right past Watt.

“Yes, he should be chipped,” Daboll said.

So why not?

“(Daniel Jones) looked at the coverage. But (right tackle) Jermaine (Eluemunor) was expecting a chip.”

“Yeah, I had to move,” Jones said. “I had to go to (tight end) Theo (Johnson). I looked at the reporting. I didn't change him. “Jermaine was expecting a chip and didn’t get it, so that’s my fault,” he said.

The Giants removed third-year offensive lineman Joshua Eeudu from the starting lineup after his rough performance last week against the Philadelphia Eagles and replaced him with Chris Hubbard at left tackle.

“Yeah, I just thought he had a good week. “Veteran, fresh start, almost 60 games, had confidence in him,” Daboll said.

“You know, I spoke to Ezeudu on Friday or Saturday morning and said let’s go with Chris and see how it goes. So we went with him.”

The Giants trained Ezeudu at tackle throughout the spring and summer, apparently with the intention of making him a swing tackle. But after losing Andrew Thomas to a season-ending foot injury, they turned to Hubbard, who they poached from the 49ers' practice squad.

“Yeah, when you add veterans that have played a lot in this type of environment, we thought it would be best for our team,” Daboll said.

Daniel Jones doesn't show much emotion in a game, but after the team's failed 2-point conversion, the quarterback was visibly angry.

“I was just mad we didn’t convert it,” he said after the game. There we had to execute and implement the move. I'm just frustrated about this.

“You have to be sharp in situations like this and my job is to get everyone on the same page and get everyone going. So I have to execute there.”

Daboll said that Jones' anger was not directed at him, although during the televised replay it appeared as if the two were insulting each other.

“No, it was just about getting your ass sorted,” he said. “When we're ready for the two-point game, we go out there and prepare so that when we get the ball, we're going to block them. I appreciate that. That's what I liked about it. It’s good for him to do that.”
