Tropical Storm Rafael forms; It is expected to develop into a hurricane and enter the Gulf

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Tropical Storm Rafael formed Monday afternoon. The storm is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane as it enters the Gulf this week.

It is expected to weaken as it approaches the coast at the end of the work week. We'll keep you posted, but in the meantime it looks like a storm that either won't hit us, or if it does, it will be much weaker by that time.

It will be a windy day starting Monday with winds from the southeast between 10 and 20 miles per hour, with gusts slightly higher.

Today will start with a few showers, then become drier with a mix of sun and clouds, highs in the upper 80s.

Predicted rainfall amounts will generally be around 1 inch this week.

There will be a lot of moisture, making it feel very humid most of the week.

As we move forward, our forecast obviously depends on the Gulf, but the chance of rain is low.
