Here's what's happening NOW: We're watching a tropical depression that is expected to strengthen as it moves across the Gulf of Mexico – with the potential to reach hurricane strength when it approaches the Florida Peninsula midweek.

We will continue to monitor for the possibility of life-threatening storm surge and wind impacts late Tuesday or Wednesday next week. The latest update from the NWS shows Tropical Depression 14 about 250 miles northeast of Veracruz, Mexico.

Heavy rainfall is expected ahead of any development, increasing the risk to areas already hit hard by Hurricane Helene.

We will continue to monitor the risk of heavy rainfall, flash flooding, urban flooding and flooding in areas across the Florida Peninsula.
