Today's Wordle etymology

The word “grant” comes from the Old French term graanter or creanter, which means “to promise, guarantee or confirm”. This Old French term, in turn, is derived from the Latin word credentare, which is based on credere and means “to believe” or “to trust”. Over time, the meaning of “grant” evolved to mean giving or gifting something, typically with a sense of formal or legal approval, such as the grant of a right, permission, or financial support.
