The defending NFC North champion Detroit Lions (6-1) will visit the Green Bay Packers (6-2) for a game against the playoff teams from a year ago, who are off to another strong start. The winner will have an early lead in this season's NFC North race.

The Lions lead the league in scoring behind a balanced offense featuring quarterback Jared Goff, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and the rushing tandem of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. They have won five straight games, including three games in which Detroit scored at least 42 points and a win over the previously undefeated Minnesota Vikings.

The Packers enter Week 9 on a four-game winning streak, but the status of quarterback Jordan Love is uncertain after he suffered a groin injury in last week's 30-27 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Love was limited in practice this week. If he can't start, Green Bay would likely turn to backup Malik Willis. He went 2-0 as a starter when Love was injured earlier this season.
