MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz exchanges contradictions with billionaire and X-owner Elon Musk.

During one Rally in Madison, Wisconsin with former President Barack Obama On Tuesday, the Democratic vice presidential candidate jokingly referred to Musk as former President Donald Trump's “running mate.”

“Seriously, where is Senator Vance after he was asked the easiest question in the world at the debate: 'Did Donald Trump lose the 2020 election?'” Walz said. “After two weeks he finally said, 'No, he hasn't.' He spends his time there.

Walz went on to say that Musk, the world's richest man, is spending millions to help Trump “buy an election.”

“Elon is on this stage, bouncing around and bouncing like a dip on these things,” Walz said. “You know it.”

Walz was referring to the time Musk attended a rally with Trump Butler, Pennsylvania, earlier this month. As Trump spoke, Musk enthusiastically bounced around the stage behind him. Musk declared himself a “dark MAGA” as he addressed the crowd.

“They are now saying the silent parts out loud because Donald Trump has already promised that he will put Elon in charge of government regulations that oversee the companies Elon runs,” Walz said. “In other words, Donald Trump is promising corruption in front of the American public. He promises you that.”

When Trump laid out his economic proposals in September, he supported a government efficiency commission launched by Musk.

Trump said it would be tasked with “conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and making recommendations for drastic reforms.” The former president said Musk did it agreed to lead the task force “when he has the time.”

Musk recently has committed to donating $1 million daily to voters for signing his political action committee's petition in support of the Constitution, a promise raises legal questions, experts say. He is also donating an undisclosed amount of money through the political action committee America PAC, which he founded this summer to support Trump.

Musk responds to Walz on X

Shortly after the rally, Musk responded to a post on

“You will lose,” Musk wrote of Walz. “It was worth it to save the American people from the torture of hearing you speak for four years.”

Musk then wrote a post early Wednesday morning in which he used an image of Walz surrounded by the words “Who am I?” and “Why am I here,” apparently a reference to Admiral James Stockdale's opening statement in the vice presidential debate 1992.

In the post's description, Musk wrote, “It's like the 🤡 emoji comes to life.”

Although he says his social media platform must remain “politically neutral,” Musk is using his platform to push for an “absolutely decisive victory” for Trump – but not Echo of disinformation Trump and some Republicans are advertising.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined last week to comment on Musk's increased political involvement.

“I have no answer at the moment, no comment on it,” Jean-Pierre told reporters last Monday.

David Schultz, a professor and political expert at Hamline University, told WCCO that overall, this type of discourse is unlikely to have much of an impact on either party this close to the election because most voters have already decided who they want to vote for .

Schultz speculated that both sides could use this rhetoric to anger their support base and encourage more to get out and vote.

X and Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
