This trade between the Lions and Saints would give Detroit the best Hutchinson replacement

The Detroit Lions will obviously be buyers in the next few days as they look to add a polished pass rusher to fill the void that likely falls to Aidan Hutchinson for the remainder of the season.

But Detroit is in far too good a position for any player to fill that void. A young player who still needs further development would be a bad decision and a top-notch pass rusher would cost more than the Lions probably want to give up.

However, there is one particular edge rusher who could be a great addition as the Lions look to gain more spacing as they aim for the NFC North division title for the second straight year.

Chase Young was a welcome addition to the San Francisco 49ers last season and managed to play in the Super Bowl. Maybe signing Young will bring a Super Bowl appearance for the Lions?

Ok, let's hit the brakes. Young doesn't necessarily mean the Lions are destined for a Super Bowl appearance, but it does mean they have a cost-effective option to add a former first-round pick. Young only has two sacks this season. But he will need the Lions to find ways to get him going.

The New Orleans Saints don't need to retain Young and there's a chance there will be a high demand for pass rushers, as was the case for wide receivers. That means the Saints could potentially get a better deal for Young. Josh Uche is already on a new team, Azeez Ojulari could emerge as a trade candidate and Za'Darius Smith of the Cleveland Browns could also become a contender.

If the Saints move at the right time, they could gain some draft capital as they continue to rebuild in the post-Sean Payton and Drew Brees era. While a fourth-round pick is a high price, it could get the job done for the Lions.

The Lions have no choice but to be aggressive and active and add a pass rusher. A call to New Orleans could be the difference between building on the strong start or running through a long list of what-ifs.
