LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — It's a new route for Las Vegas marathon runners, and it will cause traffic delays along Charleston Boulevard and downtown Sunday morning.

Early morning road closures will begin at 4 a.m. for the first road running event of the Las Vegas Marathon on Sunday, November 3rd. Roads will reopen as runners complete portions of the race as it enters the valley from Red Rock Canyon.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area will remain closed until approximately 8 a.m. Further estimates on reopening times can be found below.

Runners for the full marathon (26.2 miles) begin at Sandstone Quarry on the Scenic Loop at Red Rock. The half marathon (13.1 miles) starts at Charleston Boulevard and Merialdo Lane near Boca Park. The event also includes the “702” event (7.02 miles), which begins at Charleston and Strong Drive, west of Rancho Drive. Details about the courses and how to participate can be found at https://vegasmarathon.com/.

The “incredibly fast” route – all downhill from Red Rock – was designed to give marathon runners a Vegas experience with a stunning starting point for the race.

Buses take runners from downtown to the start point in Red Rock, and there is no other vehicle access to the scenic loop. Spectators can watch runners leave Red Rock and make their way to Charleston (SR 159).
