WASHINGTON – Stephen Curry scored 24 points in 24 minutes in his return from an ankle injury to help Golden State win its fourth straight game with a 125-112 victory over the Washington Wizards.

After sitting out the last three games with a strained left middle finger in his ankle, Curry hit 7 of 15 field shots, including four 3-pointers, and added six assists to help the Warriors improve to 6-1.

Curry said afterward that his ankle felt fine and that his minutes limit should be increased when the Warriors play a rematch of the 2022 NBA Finals with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday at TD Garden.

“That’s why it was important to get through this game,” Curry said. “I was able to play aggressively, but it didn’t last too many minutes.”

“But the rest of this road trip is tough. We have three strong teams and we want to keep gaining momentum, so I’m sure I’ll play more, but I feel good enough to do it.”

After the game against the Celtics, the Warriors play in Cleveland and Oklahoma City.

Curry started the game against the Wizards but was substituted early in the second half, allowing the Warriors to use him in six-minute stretches at the end of the third and fourth quarters.

“Steph was great,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “The main thing is that he seemed to move really well, looked strong and played a great game in his 24 minutes.”

Curry injured his ankle in a loss to the Clippers on October 27. He initially twisted his ankle and came out of the game before trying to play again and improve it again.

“I've been through a lot of these episodes and I know whether I can play with them or not,” Curry said. “I made a misjudgment. The adrenaline got the better of me, but luckily it was only a little over a week and I feel good now.”
