A world without basketball is a world not worth picking up the punch card for a free sub sandwich. Unfortunately, our beloved Spurs are back on the hardwood, struggling against last season's Western Conference champions. Jeremy Sochan and Julian Champagnie led the team with 18 points each, while brilliant sophomore Victor Wembanyama added 17 points and 9 rebounds.

Veterans Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes, who led the kids, also had an impressive night, with Paul providing 8 assists and 7 boards while Barnes chipped in 17 points on efficient 7-of-10 shooting.

Welcome to the NBA, Stephon Castle! The prized rookie came off the bench, but in his limited minutes he looked sprightly, active and with all the amazing adjectives every Spurs fan wants to hear about the continued additions to this young team.

Longtime Spurs toe jam Chris Paul is now a Spur! Up is down! Day is night! McDonald's has a Chicken Big Mac! CP3 wasted no time in doing what he does best: handing out dimes on the dot.

However, will Paul appear in new HEB commercials? Or are local grocery store ads not enough time for Mr. Bundle Your Home and Auto Insurance?

On a night without Devin Vassell, Julian Champagnie stepped in admirably and delivered a very efficient 7-for-12 shooting for 18 points along with 7 boards, 1 swipe and 2 blocks.

The dance and the two! D&D moves from Jeremy Sochan rewarded the Spurs with a three-pointer after this frenetic offensive ball. I enjoyed Jacoby Tobey's opening show, but I'd be remiss if I didn't say we're missing out on the legendary Bill Land.

For retro fans, this post-up play and footwork is something wonderful. It will be fun to see how Wembanyama expands his attacking arsenal this season.

Like a good neighbor (this won't be the last time I leave this reference out, I apologize in advance), Paul Champagnie at Next Door didn't reward him for not putting away his trash cans, but he did spend that scant penny to Champ Champ for the goal.

If you missed the game because you were too busy waiting in line for early voting, here are highlights from the entire game:

Next, the Spurs open Frost Bank Center for their first home game against the Houston Rockets on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
