The Saints' shocking trade proposal would reunite the star with the former head coach

After looking like they might actually turn things around and make some noise in 2024, the New Orleans Saints are in free fall after four straight losses. To make matters worse, quarterback Derek Carr is injured.

There are still three games left before the NFL trade deadline on November 5th, but if things continue the way they are going, the Saints could become sellers. But would they consider trading their best player, running back Alvin Kamara?

Well, former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew thinks that's at least possible after suggesting a trade between the Saints and Denver Broncos that would reunite Kamara with his former head coach Sean Payton.

“This game seems the most far-fetched…but it's also the most fun! Kamara will face his former head coach Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos.” Thursday Night Football This week there should be an emotional and competitive duel. Aside from Saints fans, who wouldn't Would you like to see the five-time Pro Bowler in Payton's offense again? The Broncos appear to be on the rise as they have won three of their last four games, while the Saints have lost four games in a row and are coping without their starting quarterback in the middle of the season. Despite recent success, Payton's offense ranks 29th overall and 23rd in rushing entering Week 7. There is so much room for improvement and there is no doubt that Kamara would provide a huge boost.

However, the Saints are unlikely to trade their best offensive linemen midseason. Furthermore, despite the ongoing, turbulent contract negotiations, Kamara insisted that he wanted to send a Saint into retirement. Even though this probably won't happen, it's possible to dream.

While a shocking suggestion on the surface, it's not entirely unreasonable as the Saints sit at 2-4 as they prepare to play the Broncos on Thursday night.

In the final year of his contract and at 29 years old, it's not crazy to think Kamara could be available at the trade deadline if the Saints continue to stink over the next three weeks.

But again, that will depend on the Saints' future plans. If they want to blow it up and rebuild after this season, keeping a 29-year-old running back wouldn't be the best idea.

However, Kamara would also be a great asset to a young, developing quarterback like Spencer Rattler, so you can look at both sides.

Ultimately, the Saints are stuck with Carr for a few more years in what turns out to be a disastrous contract. As a result, they could continue to push forward and try to keep up, which would mean Kamara isn't going anywhere.
