The Lions' subtle dig at the Cowboys trumps Week 6's trolls

3 minutes, 51 seconds Read

Division games across the NFL resulted in petty social media posts.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated the New Orleans Saints. The Indianapolis Colts narrowly beat the Tennessee Titans. And on Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks on the road.

But it was a non-divisional matchup that set the tone in Week 6.

The Detroit Lions dominated the host Dallas Cowboys and earned a 47-9 win. Detroit's offense managed 492 yards while the defense forced five turnovers. The 47 points are the most points Dallas has ever allowed in a game in which it did not score a touchdown, according to ESPN Research.

As if the big win wasn't enough, the Lions trolled the Cowboys with a simple response to the team's pregame post.

Here are the top trolls for week 6.

The Buccaneers left no doubt about their victory over the Saints.

Tampa Bay outscored New Orleans 27-0 in the second half and totaled 594 yards of offense. Baker Mayfield threw for 325 yards plus four touchdowns and three interceptions – according to ESPN Research, the Buccaneers became the third team since 2000 to score 50 points despite three interceptions.

Tampa Bay had a simple troll aimed at its division rivals, referencing a lyric from Atlanta rapper Bankroll Fresh that shows Buccaneers fans taking over Caesars Superdome. They also posted a video of Mayfield silencing the home crowd.

With Joe Flacco back under center, the Colts picked up their third win in four games and first in divisional action.

The Titans had a chance to win the game as they received the ball with 22 seconds left. But her lateral attempt failed. Flacco threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns, while Will Levis only had 95 yards with a touchdown and each had an interception.

Indianapolis chose the “Music City” theme for its Tennessee troll.

The Houston Texans spoiled Drake Mayes' first career start by jumping out to a 14-0 lead and never looking back.

The New England Patriots quarterback threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns, but also had two interceptions and a lost fumble in his debut. CJ Stroud had 192 passing yards plus three touchdowns.

Houston trolled New England several times, including a twist on a famous scene from “Good Will Hunting,” set in Boston. The Texans also captioned their post with former Patriots coach Bill Belichick's phrase “Do your job.”

The Los Angeles Chargers left no chance after the bye week and were able to defeat the Denver Broncos on the road.

The Broncos scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late. The victory ended Los Angeles' two-game losing streak and Denver's three-game winning streak. Justin Herbert threw for a season-high 237 yards plus one touchdown, while Bo Nix had 216 passing yards and two scores.

The Chargers used a video of someone threatening to shoot a water balloon at a child to troll the Broncos.

After a narrow defeat against the Dallas Cowboys, the Pittsburgh Steelers comfortably defeated the Las Vegas Raiders.

With 32 points and 293 total yards, Pittsburgh had its highest-scoring game of the season. The Steelers also forced three turnovers, including two fumbles forced by TJ Watt. Justin Fields threw for 145 yards and ran for 59 yards and two touchdowns.

There were a lot of trolls after the Steelers game. First they used the phrase “Just Win, Baby,” coined by famous Raiders owner Al Davis, and then made fun of Allegiant Stadium resembling a Roomba vacuum cleaner.

Sunday game or not, the 49ers still made fun of the Seahawks after their win.

San Francisco totaled 483 yards on offense and forced three turnovers in a complete game. The result leaves both teams at 3-3 and tied for first place in the NFC West.

The 49ers poked fun at the Seahawks' home stadium, Lumen Field, in their postgame troll.
