The latest on Bryce Underwood and Michigan football

It's honestly hard to know what to believe when it comes to Michigan football's efforts to replace five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood in the 2025 class.

Underwood isn't just a five-star quarterback. He is the No. 1 quarterback in his class. Underwood is ranked No. 1 overall and would be a program-changing signing.

However, he has been committed to LSU since January. Michigan football was in the game, but it felt like the NIL game wasn't on par with the Tigers. LSU also throws the ball more.

Some have suggested a reversal could happen any day. Others have poured cold water on it, even Underwood himself.

But Josh Henschke of the Maize and Blue Review (Rivals) addressed the rumors on Wednesday, saying it's a “fact” that Michigan football, led by Sherrone Moore, is making moves to get Underwood, a native of Belleville, Michigan, to turn around.

Here are some “facts” about the situation according to Henschke.

“Sherrone has led a serious push for Bryce Underwood. FACT. Bryce Underwood has been open-minded about the progress. FACT. – Some in recruiting circles report that Bryce is rightly “torn” about what to do next. FACT. – Michigan has significant support for NIL measures like this and others moving forward.

The NIL thing is significant to me because it will have a positive impact on Michigan football in the future beyond Underwood. Dave Portnoy said after the loss to Illinois that he was “working on it” and was offered big money for a quarterback.

He talked about it coming from the portal, but Underwood would be better than that. He could push for playing time immediately and bring an elite talent into the QB room who has three more years to play before being eligible for the NFL draft were.

There have been clues, but they could come from Michigan. I'll believe it when I see it, but at least the Wolverines are trying. That's encouraging.
