The Jets' stunning proposed blockbuster would give the 49ers a $140 million superstar

The San Francisco 49ers are one of the few teams that could still use a wide receiver at the trade deadline. Could they shock the world by bringing in a superstar?

After a much-needed win on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys, the 49ers are back in a duel with the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals for first place in the lackluster NFC West. But without Brandon Aiyuk on the team, the passing game still feels like it's missing a man.

Aiyuk was sidelined for the season with a torn ACL he suffered in Week 7, and the 49ers will now rely on rookies and defensive players to make up for the loss. But they've also been the subject of intense trade speculation – it's just that most of the superstar receivers have already been traded.

However, an unconventional proposal could lead to the 49ers changing the game. There's just one obvious hurdle: The receiver in question has already been traded once in the last two weeks.

Brand-new New York Jets receiver Davante Adams, who recently reunited with longtime quarterback Aaron Rodgers, was the subject of a blockbuster 49ers trade proposal from Yahoo Sports' Frank Schwab on Tuesday.

“When the Jets traded for Adams, it was a bad idea. Everyone knew that… And now that the Jets are at an embarrassing 2-6, it's time to reevaluate everything. Why not trade Adams to a team that needs him? “Maybe a team that just lost its No. 1 receiver, like the 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk,” Schwab said.

“As long as Aaron Rodgers allows the Jets to trade his friend, there is no good reason for the Jets to hold on to him. “Realistically, a trade won't happen because the Jets are a tire fire of an organization, but it should.”

Let's consider this a serious trading proposal for a moment. Adams, 31, still has two years remaining on his five-year, $140 million contract, but the 49ers could cut him after the season with a dead cap hit of just $8 million.

However, cutting a future Hall of Fame talent after just half a season makes little sense, putting the 49ers in a bigger quandary. Quarterback Brock Purdy is in line for a roughly $50 million raise, putting a huge strain on the rest of the budget.

As Schwab notes, the fact that Adams has already been traded once makes it almost inconceivable that it will happen again so quickly. But it's nice to dream, and maybe the deal could have actually gone through if Rodgers hadn't gotten in the way.
