The international premiere of Season 4 features the story of the missing Jay Halstead on Chicago PD

FBI: InternationalThe fourth season premiere shows this through the plot Chicago PD not after Jay Halstead left. Jesse Lee Soffer joined the FBI: Season 4 International Cast as Wes Mitchell, a former LAPD officer who now works with the Fly Team in Budapest. This character is the first major role Soffer has landed since his departure Chicago PD at the end of season 10. Mitchell was only supposed to stay to solve a case, but accepted Vo's suggestion to take over as head of the unit, which is why he is now there permanently.

After Hailey Upton's exit, NBC and Wolf Entertainment will never be able to solve the worst character assassination of a secret service agent by the Chicago police.

This introduction stands in stark contrast to Halstead's exit. In Season 10, Episode 2, Halstead decided to travel to Bolivia to help capture a cartel leader there, after which he was never seen again. Halstead reportedly moved from Bolivia to another part of the world on another mission, and when it was clear he wasn't coming back, Hailey divorced him. HoweverHalstead updates were all given through dialogue and the character never appeared on screen in his post-Intelligence Unit life.

How Mitchell von Soffer is different from Chicago PD's Halstead

Despite some similarities, they should not have the same character

Mitchell and Halstead are not the same characters, although Mitchell's backstory of being an LAPD officer for ten years seemed like a subtle nod to Soffer's previous character, considering he had been there Chicago PD for 10 seasons. Both characters are passionate about justice and protecting the people they love, but Mitchell is far more hotheaded and willing to break the rules for a good cause than Halstead was. To film Halstead's life after leaving the intelligence unit, Jesse Lee Soffer would have had to return at least several more times after his character left Voight's team. This was not possible as Soffer had already decided to leave Chicago PD and therefore there was no opportunity to film these post-intelligence scenes. This is not unusual Chicago PD.
