The image depicting “Cabin Alone,” a new sequel to “Home Alone,” is fan art, not a Disney+ project

With Christmas just around the corner, some movie fans might be looking forward to a sequel to the popular Home Alone Christmas film series titled Cabin Alone. But they shouldn't get their hopes up.

“New home alone!!! “Kevin and his mother!!!,” said a November 6 Facebook post. It features an image of the stars of the original Home Alone film, Macaulay Culkin, who plays Kevin McCallister, and Catherine O'Hara, who plays Kevin's mother Kate McCallister.

The image shared on Facebook says that the plot of “Cabin Alone” follows a familiar progression: Kevin and his mother travel to a cabin for the Christmas holidays while the rest of the family has flight delays. In the cabin, Kevin and his mother are targeted by the robbers Marv and Harry.

The picture reads: “With snowy traps, outlandish pranks and high-risk holiday antics, they transform the tranquil cabin into a thrilling battlefield that will have you laughing and cheering. Get ready for a wild vacation adventure with Cabin Alone streaming on Disney+ this December!”

The Facebook post was flagged as part of Meta's efforts to combat fake news and misinformation in its news feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook, Threads and Instagram.)

The poster and alleged storyline come from a November 3 Facebook post on a Facebook page that describes itself as “100% satire and fake news.” At the end of the post it says: “For entertainment purposes only. Fan art. Make this movie!!!”

But some social media users reshared it without this disclaimer.

There are no announcements on the Disney+ website or the company's social media accounts regarding a film titled “Cabin Alone” that will premiere in December or at any other time.

The image of Culkin and O'Hara in Christmas sweaters is an edited version of a photo showing the two actors at a 2023 ceremony where Culkin was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.

We reached out to Disney+ for comment but did not receive a response.
