The Girls Volleyball Regional Championships will be completed toward the end of the season

The end has finally come – the conclusion of the girls volleyball regular season.

The final games will conclude this weekend before regional tournaments take place the following weekend.
That sets up the state tournament for Nov. 14-16 at the Denver Coliseum.

For the most part, championships are decided. After the regular season ends on Saturday, the regionals will be determined.

Here's a look at the final week of the regular season:

Class 5A

While they may not have won the Continental League title yet, no team will want to compete with Legend when it comes to regional tournaments. The No. 5 Titans (14-4, 9-1) ended the regular season with a win over two top-five teams in then-No. 5 Rock Canyon and fourth-ranked Mountain Vista on Tuesday night. Legend is currently second in RPI behind league champion Chaparral… The Granite Peaks League has three teams in the top 16 in RPI, with league champion Niwot (10th), Erie (11th) and an 18-win Broomfield team (16th). …Pine Creek picked a good time to get hot. The seventh-ranked Eagles (19-3, 10-1 Colo. Springs Metro) finished the regular season with 13 straight wins and shared the league crown with No. 8 Pueblo West. … No. 9 Denver South clinched the City League crown with a win over Denver East on Tuesday night. The Ravens (18-1, 6-0) have not lost a game since August 31st.

Class 4A

Top-ranked Thompson Valley can top the Longs Peak League standings with a win over Mountain View on Wednesday. The Eagles (17-0, 14-0) defeated No. 9 Timnath on Tuesday night. … Fourth-seeded Montrose (14-5, 8-2 Southwestern) defeated another top-10 University team in four sets on Friday night before losing to 3A's current No. 4 Village on Saturday. Maggie Legg had 15 kills and 13 digs in the win over University…Lewis-Palmer avenged her only game at Pikes Peak by rolling past Cheyenne Mountain in four sets to clinch the league crown last Thursday. Brooke Gennerman had 26 kills and 10 digs for the No. 2 Rangers (15-4, 9-1). … No. 7 Battle Mountain (18-0, 12-0 Western Slope) still has a chance at an undefeated season, although the Huskies play in a tournament this weekend involving No. 3 Palisade.

Class 3A

An unknown for a number of 3A teams heading into the postseason is how No. 4 will beat Village. The Mountaineers (20-3) appear to be a tough opponent, especially after traveling to the Western Slope last weekend and picking up wins over two 4A top-5 teams in Palisade and Montrose. Lilian Edwards had 26 kills in the win over the No. 3 Bulldogs. … Eaton got back on track after its first loss and secured second place in the Patriot League with a four-set victory over Resurrection Christian last Thursday. The No. 2 Reds were paced by 16 kills from Chloe Crider. … No. 7 Lamar took the Tri-Peaks crown. The Thunder are 20-2 overall heading into their finale on Thursday.

Class 2A

Sedgwick County is preparing for a state run by competing against some of 2A's best on the track. The No. 2 Cougars defeated No. 10 Heritage Christian in four sets on Tuesday night before a showdown with top-ranked Simla on Saturday. … No. 3 Lyons had won 10 in a row heading into the final weekend of play. The Lions (17-2, 11-1 Mile High) finished second in league play behind 1A Flatirons Academy. … No. 6 Swink avenged a loss to Fowler earlier in the year with a four-set win Tuesday night. The Lions (19-4, 7-1 Santa Fe) sit above No. 8 Rye in the league tiebreaker. …

Class 1A

Merino is a big favorite to make the postseason, even though the Rams still have a league game left. The top-ranked Rams (19-1, 7-0 Lower Platte) defeated a top-five team in Stratton last Saturday and were scheduled to face No. 2 Fleming on Tuesday night. … Fleming had defeated then-No. 2 defeated Idalia in three sets last Thursday before losing to top-ranked 2A Simla. The Wildcats then defeated No. 8 Cheraw.
