The fourth quarter goal line score gave No. 4 Ohio State a 20-13 win over No. 3 Penn State

No. 4 Ohio State's score with 5:13 left gave the Buckeyes a 20-13 road win over No. 3 Penn State.

After Ohio State kicked a field goal to go within seven – a drive aided by a controversial turnover on a replay – Penn State immediately drove down the field and pulled ahead on a 33-yard run from Tight End Tyler Warren in position for a touchdown.

On first-and-goal, RB Kaytron Allen was thwarted for no gain. On second down, he had one yard to reach Ohio State's 2-yard line. On third down, QB Drew Allar got another yard. And on fourth down, Penn State went to the air, but Allar's pass to Khalil Dinkins in traffic was incomplete.

It was a statement from Ohio State's defense that stalled Penn State's offense for the second straight game. And Penn State never had a chance to have the ball again after that stop at Ohio State.

The Buckeyes scored thanks to Quinshon Judkins with 5:13 remaining. The Ole Miss transfer had three straight runs for two first downs early in the drive and then provided a key third-down block when QB Will Howard rushed for a first down just after the two-minute warning.

Three plays later, Pennsylvania native Howard ended the game with another third-down conversion.

Judkins also featured prominently in the recap review mentioned above. On that drive, which extended Ohio State's lead to seven, Judkins appeared to catch a pass from Howard and fumble the ball when he was hit. Officials immediately verified that the play involved a catch and a fumble, but after a replay determined that Judkins did not have time to actually make a catch.

It was really, really close.

Had the call for a fumble stood, Penn State would have taken control inside Ohio State territory. Instead, on the next play, Howard hit freshman Jeremiah Smith for a 14-yard pass and the Buckeyes scored a field goal from Jayden Fielding.

The Buckeyes' win over the Nittany Lions is their eighth in a row and drops Penn State coach James Franklin's record against OSU to 1-10. Perhaps aware of this record, Franklin responded to a disgruntled Penn State fan as he left the field after the game.

Important sales in the first half of the year

The first half was characterized by crucial turnovers in and around the end zone and a pick-6.

The first touchdown of the game came when Penn State CB Zion Tracy returned an interception 31 yards for a score and a 10-0 lead.

Howard then made a crucial mistake in the second quarter after Ohio State took a 14-10 lead thanks to a close penalty. Howard fumbled as he ran for a touchdown, and the ball bounced off his leg and out of the end zone.

A TD was called on the field, but it was obvious that Howard lost the ball just short of the end zone. After a review, officials determined that the ball remained in play before landing out of bounds in the end zone, giving Penn State control.

However, Penn State failed to capitalize on this turnover, turning the ball over at the end of the first half after an incredible interception by Ohio State's Davison Igbinosun. Because he was in man coverage in front of the receiver and had one hand on his face, Igbinosun was able to reach the ball with his hand and quickly realized he could grab anything while keeping his foot down in the end zone.

The impact on the Big Ten race and the playoffs

Currently, only two teams are undefeated in Big Ten play: Indiana and Oregon.

Oregon is the clear favorite to be one of the two teams in the Big Ten title game thanks to its win over Ohio State and a schedule that does not feature any ranked teams for the remainder of the season.

You can put Indiana and Ohio State in the next tier. The two teams will meet on November 23rd and it is conceivable that the winner of that game will face Oregon in the first round of the expanded playoffs.

Penn State needs help. It takes a loss at Ohio State and possibly multiple losses at Indiana or Oregon. But the Nittany Lions should still be in top shape for the College Football Playoff and even a home game in the first round. Penn State has Washington, Purdue, Minnesota and Maryland to finish the season. A 4-0 win over the rest of November would equate to an 11-1 regular season and most likely a playoff game in State College on December 20th or 21st.
