CROW AGENCY – Unofficial results show Monday that the Crow Tribe's current executive branch, led by Chairman Frank Whiteclay, will remain in office. The four candidates ran together in the 2024 election, with the focus of their campaign platform on consistency and cost-effectiveness.

The unofficial results were due to be confirmed at 5pm on Monday

Of the more than 14,000 registered Crow Tribal members, 3,364 voted in Saturday's election for the tribe's executive branch. The election process is very different from U.S. federal or state elections.

All ballots were cast in person at the tribe's multicenter on Saturday, with only non-tribal members and those 18 and older allowed in.

There are no satellite polling places on the Crow Reservation, making the trip to Crow Agency a must for all but the 89 people who voted by mail by the September deadline.

With poverty almost everywhere you turn on the reservation, economic development appears to be the most pressing issue, and voters have put their trust in Whiteclay's slate.

Transportation took center stage on Election Day on this two-million-acre reservation, with even the candidates themselves driving all the way to Pryor to help pick up voters.

Another notable difference from the federal election is that when Montana's tribal voters go to the polls this election season, there was no red or blue ticket on the tribal ballot, just one race, and whether Crow or Northern Cheyenne, voters choose the top candidates , who are running on the reservations this election season.

“It's more of a unifying thing where we get together, eat and spread our platform,” said Wacey Real Bird, candidate for vice chair of the Crow Tribal.
