ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Cardinals made interim additions to their coaching staff on Tuesday, naming Brant Brown hitting coach and bringing Jon Jay aboard for an undetermined role.

The team announced that there will be further reinforcements in coach Oliver Marmol's coaching staff over the course of the off-season.

The Cardinals are coming off a season in which they went 83-79 and missed the playoffs for the second straight year. They finished tied for second in the National League Central but were six games off the pace in the wild card chase.

The club also announced that Willie McGee will move from major league coach to special assistant to president of baseball operations John Mozeliak.

According to The Athletic, first base coach Stubby Clapp and third base coach Ron Warner are scheduled to return in 2025.

Brown, 53, was a reserve coach for the Seattle Mariners last season after serving as hitting coach for the Miami Marlins in 2023.

Jay, 39, played six of his 12 major league seasons with the Cardinals and was a .283 hitter with 37 home runs and 341 RBIs in 1,201 games for seven different clubs from 2010 to 2021. Jay has been the Marlins' first base coach for the past two seasons.

The Cardinals also continued the transformation of their front office by hiring Robert Cerfolio from the Cleveland Guardians as assistant general manager responsible for player development and performance.

Cerfolio began his career in Cleveland in 2015 as an intern in the baseball operations and player development department.

Last month, the Cardinals announced that Chaim Bloom would replace longtime president of baseball operations John Mozeliak after the 2025 season. Bloom is expected to spend the upcoming offseason and season overseeing a rebuild of the Cardinals' player development program after they missed the playoffs for a second straight year.

Mozeliak has been general manager in St. Louis since 2007. In 2017, he was named President of Baseball Operations.

The Cardinals said Cerfolio would hire a farm director and a performance director while also announcing several internal promotions. Matt Bayer will be senior director of baseball development, Kevin Seats will be senior director of analytics, DC MacLea will be manager of video technology and Brady Hall will be video and technology coordinator for player development.
