What you should know: The season starts on Monday evening. If Iowa doesn't extend its season-opening winning streak to 14, something is terribly messed up.

It is the first of three Hawkeye home games in a nine-day span, with Southern University on Thursday at 7 p.m. and South Dakota next Tuesday at 8 p.m

Iowa lifts the lid with preseason first-team All-Big Ten forward Payton Sandfort taking the lead. The senior averaged 16.4 points and 6.6 rebounds last season, recording the first triple-double in program history.

Texas A&M-Commerce is in its third season of Division I after two 13-20 seasons. Commerce, Texas is located 60 miles northeast of Dallas.

The Lions don't have any of their top six scorers back from last season's team. Eight of their players are transfers from junior colleges. They were picked to finish 10th in the 12-team Southland Conference. Voting was done by league coaches and sports information directors.
