ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) — The big Michigan State-Michigan football game is just over a day away. Both teams will meet on the field on Saturday at 7:30 p.m

Both teams circle their calendars for this game every year, and the rivalry is renewed Saturday night at the Big House in Ann Arbor.

I visited both locations to speak to fans about their thoughts on this long-standing rivalry.

You can already feel the tension between both fan communities.

“Jo Jo, Adam and Scott, there's no point in coming here.” said Talha Hafeez, a student from Michigan. “Your team sucks. You should please just stay at MSU.”

“Oh, the opera isn’t over until the fat lady sings Baby.” said Michigan State student Maria Infante. “No no no. There’s nothing in the bag.”

The Spartan and Wolverine pride is extremely high at both campuses, and while both teams are 4-3, records don't matter when these two come together.

“It’s a little bit like a coin flip,” said Michigan State University student Henry Middleton. “I have no idea.” We did it…what 4-3? We’ve done pretty well this year, but we’re not great against some of the bigger teams like Oregon.”

“I mean, I think we haven’t been great the last few weeks.” said Michigan student Ammar Ateya. “But I think we’ll do it against Michigan State just because we hate them so much.”

Ellie Carl, a third-year law student from Michigan and Rochester Hills resident, says her house is divided this week.

“Definitely sure,” Ellie said. “My dad went to MSU. So he will come to town. Then we'll have a big like… I'm sure he and I will get into a big fight… You know? He doesn't care about football as much as I do. But usually when Michigan wins we're pretty nice to each other. I'm happy for him when MSU wins.”

“I am from Italy. I come from Rome. I still support, you know, Michigan State,” Mauricio said.

Mauricio traveled thousands of miles to observe the wedding of his longtime friend and Bridgeport native Maria Infante.

“I have lived in Rome, Italy for the last 31 years until about two years ago. I moved here to East Lansing. said Maria.

They stayed in touch and Mauricio became a Spartans football fan.

He was thinking about going to Saturday's rivalry game.

“(I) wanted to stay longer. But you know, I mean… I have to go to… I have to go back to San Francisco,” he said.

“They’re flying to California. “Are you going to watch the game from California?” I asked.

“Yes, of course. Of course. I will,” Mauricio replied.

Now it's a bus ride to the airport and several flights back to Rome. As for the game, MSU fan Ocean Smith believes the Spartans will win.

“I think people like to support the underdog,” Ocean said. “And it feels kind of good. And they can win against a bigger opponent.”

Michigan fan Ammar Ateya disagrees.

“Don’t even bother coming to the game because I mean it won’t be pretty,” Ammar said. “They will fight hard.”

Ellie predicted the final score will be 21-17, MSU

“I don't feel like…I'm a little disappointed with our team this year.” Ellie said.

“Well, you know, in Italy we never make predictions before the game. So it’s going to go great,” Mauricio said.

Ticket prices for all remaining seats start at just over $100 and range up to nearly $1,000. It should be a good game as Michigan looks to win its third straight game against the Spartans.

Saturday night's game will be the first time since 1928 that both teams enter the competition with at least three losses.
