SMU defensive lineman AJ Davis was carried off the field during the game against Pitt

UNIVERSITY PARK – SMU defensive lineman AJ Davis was taken off the field in an ambulance during the second quarter of Saturday's game against Pitt at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

Davis, a redshirt sophomore, suffered an injury late in the second quarter while playing defense on a kickoff. He was looked after by SMU training staff on the field before an ambulance drove away after a few minutes. Davis was placed on a stretcher, loaded into the ambulance and taken off the field after a delay with 1:46 left in the first half.

According to SMU, he was taken to Baylor Hospital where he is being evaluated by medical personnel.

“He moved everything, he was alert, so that's a positive,” SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee said during his halftime interview on ACC Network. “Obviously he had neck pain, so they were just being extra careful…

A graduate of Skyline, Davis has played in all nine SMU games this season.
