MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A fair amount of sunshine is forecast for today, but showers and thunderstorms will move in this evening. A high pressure area is currently drifting eastward. This ridge brings southerly winds to the state of Wisconsin today. Temperatures will be warmer than yesterday, with highs expected to be around 60°. By tonight, the approaching cold front will trigger the development of showers and thunderstorms. These will run through tomorrow in the late evening and early morning hours. Some of the thunderstorms could be stronger, producing wind gusts of around 40 to 45 miles per hour and some small hail.

What's next…

Once this passes, cooler air will return and high temperatures will return to the 50s by Saturday. A warming trend will emerge at the beginning of next week. The weekend looks dry and the sun will shine on both Saturday and Sunday.

Looking ahead…

Temperatures will be above 70 degrees by Tuesday next week before cooling behind a cold front that will move through midweek.
