President-elect Donald Trump is the expected winner the 2024 election and achieved victory Vice President Kamala Harris in the race for the White House.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Trump was projected to win at least 291 electoral votes, 21 more than the 270 needed to win.

The president-elect has won five Battleground statesaccording to CBS News projections, and is in the lead in the two states still counting votes. Seven states were considered battlegrounds this year: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. President Biden won six of them in 2020 – all but North Carolina.

CBS News currently estimates that Nevada is Trump lean, while Arizona is still rated a bust.

Here's a look at the states Trump lost in 2020 but won in 2024:

Georgia

CBS News predicted that Trump would win Georgia on election night. Votes are still being counted in Georgia, but with 99% of jurisdictions reporting, he is ahead by about 2 percentage points.

Trumps Reconquest of Georgia comes four years after he lost there to Mr Biden by fewer than 12,000 votes, leading to a failed attempt to pressure state officials to “find” the votes he needed to win.

Michigan

Michigan, after going for Mr. Biden in 2020, slipped back into Trump's victory column this year. With 99% of jurisdictions reporting results as of 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Trump was leading by a margin of 1.5 percentage points, or about 83,000 votes.

Mr. Biden secured Michigan by just over 150,000 votes four years ago.

Pennsylvania

Trump won the crucial battleground of Pennsylvania and its 19 electoral votes by a margin of 2.3 points, or just over 150,000 votes as of Wednesday afternoon. The votes are still being counted.

In 2020, Mr. Biden defeated Trump in the Keystone State by 181,000 votes.

Wisconsin

Wisconsin's ten electoral votes went to Trump in this election. With 99% of the vote, Trump was ahead of Harris in the state by just 1 percentage point, or nearly 30,000 votes, as of noon ET on Wednesday.

In 2016, Trump ended Democrats' decades-long winning streak in Wisconsin when he defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In recent years, Democrats have won the state in every presidential election since 1988.

However, Mr. Biden prevailed in Wisconsin by less than one point in 2020.

More battleground states in 2024

Arizona

As of Wednesday afternoon, Arizona was still rated a failure by CBS News but was trending in the red.

In 2020, Mr. Biden edged out Trump in Arizona by 0.3 points, a razor-thin margin of 10,457 votes. This was only the second time since 1948 that Arizona voted for a Democratic presidential candidate, putting all eyes on the Grand Canyon State as a battleground in the 2024 election.

Nevada

CBS News estimated that Nevada's six electoral votes leaned toward Trump on Wednesday. Mr. Biden won Nevada by over 30,000 votes in 2020. The state hasn't gone Republican since 2004.

North Carolina

North Carolina was the only battleground state that Mr. Biden lost to Trump in 2020. In 2024 it remained red; With 99% of the vote, Trump has a 3.3-point lead over Harris in the Tar Heel State.
