This wasn't the postgame courtesy Sean Payton probably expected.

Shortly after Denver sealed its fifth win of the season with a commanding 28-14 home victory over the woeful Panthers on Sunday, Payton ran onto the field and was confronted by Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn, who accused the Broncos head coach of “trying.” . Increase the score,” the footage obtained by 9News Sports Denver reads.

Horn, a four-year veteran, is seen in the video talking to Payton, 61, before walking away.

The Broncos had the game firmly in control early in the half as they led Carolina 21-7.

Denver extended its lead to 28-7 late in the third quarter, but ran two trick plays in the fourth quarter despite the large lead.

They initially opted for a fake rather than kick a field goal while facing fourth-and-8 at the Panthers' 42-yard line and turned the ball over after failing to reach the sticks.

With 4:29 remaining and a four-and-2 at the Panthers' 43-yard line, the Broncos used a double pass to gain 28 yards.

Carolina later scored its second and final touchdown in garbage time, dropping the Panthers to 1-7 on the season.

Dave Canales, in his first year at the helm at Carolina, was under pressure over Payton's decision after the game.

“They’re just competing. I don’t know what else to tell you about that,” Canales said, according to Charlotte’s WBTV.

“He’s just competing and trying to stay on the field, bide his time and finish the game in that situation. And if that’s actually the call that was set up there, that’s their decision.”

Payton, who coached the Saints against the Panthers for 15 seasons, spoke with the 24-year-old Horn about that moment and recalled coaching his father, former wide receiver Joe Horn, in New Orleans in 2006.

“I was coaching his dad and I yelled at him about it,” Payton said, according to CBS Sports. “I don’t know what the exchange was like, but I enjoyed coaching his father. He was frustrated, I think he yelled at one of our other players. I like him, I think he’s a good player.”

Although Payton had high praise for Horn, he did not extend those accolades to the rest of the Panthers team.

“I said this, it’s not a good offense that we played. It’s just the truth,” Payton said.

“So that’s what we expected, and we’re going to see a lot better teams.”

That goes for the Broncos (5-3), who will visit the Ravens (5-3) and Chiefs (7-0) in consecutive weeks.

The Panthers, meanwhile, will visit the struggling Saints (2-6) in New Orleans next week before traveling to Germany to face the Giants (2-6) on November 9th.
