Saints vs. Panthers Final Score Prediction for NFL Week 9 (Don’t Bet on Carolina)

1 minute, 51 seconds Read

The New Orleans Saints have lost six games in a row, but they have a great chance to get back on the winning list in Week 9. They face the weak Carolina Panthers, a team they have already beaten once this season.

Derek Carr has been out with injury for the last two weeks but will return to action soon. It may be too late to save the Saints' season, but he will do his best to get this team back into the NFC South mix.

Let's take a look at the latest odds for the game and then I'll go into my prediction for the final result.

The spread for this game has remained consistent all week and is Saints -7. The total for the game has changed significantly, dropping from 46 to 43.5.

In this week's Road to 272 Bets, I wrote about why you shouldn't think too much about betting on this game:

The mistake of getting cute and betting on the Panthers because they “have to cover the spread at some point” or “they can't be that bad, right?” is a trap I've fallen into too many times. The fact is that they are a historically bad team on both ends and there is a chance that Bryce Young will be back in the starting lineup in Week 9, which would be a death knell for their chances of winning this game.

New Orleans is expected to get Derek Carr back for this game, and with him at quarterback, this is a completely different team.

Before you place a bet on this game, keep in mind that the Panthers have an average points margin of -18.4 this season, which is the worst in the NFL by 7.5 points.

As for the total for this game, I'm going UNDER. The overall score fell by 2.5 points for good reason. Bryce Young is terrible and Carr could be limited due to injury. Expect a slow game.

Final Score Prediction: Saints 20, Panthers 10
