Production on Zendaya and Robert Pattinson's new film The Drama has officially begun in Boston, prompting a surge in film crews and a flurry of celebrity sightings.

On Thursday, A24 crews occupied a large portion of downtown Boston near the Bank of America building and parked along High Street, Federal Street and Franklin Street.

As the cars detained by police on Summer Street honked impatiently, Pattinson filmed a scene in front of the Bank of America building across from South Station.

On Wednesday, Phillips Andover Academy students posted videos on Instagram and TikTok of Zendaya and Pattinson's arrival and departure on set.

According to a source familiar with the production, film crews transformed the private school's Addison Art Gallery into the fictional “Cambridge Art Museum” where Pattinson's character works in the film.

Decorations included a banner for the Greetings From gallery by real artist Eirik Sæther. Sæther previously worked with The Drama director (and fellow Norwegian) Kristoffer Borgli and starred in Borgli's 2022 film Sick of Myself.

The source confirmed filming would continue throughout the autumn in Boston and Cambridge and would also visit Ipswich before wrapping up in December.

In addition to being spotted on set, Zendaya also enjoyed a bite to eat on the patio at Beacon Hill Tatte on Tuesday. She previously visited the cafe's Back Bay location with boyfriend Tom Holland while filming the 2022 Boston-set tennis drama “Challengers.”

In addition to Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, “The Drama” will star Mamoudou Athie (“Elemental”) and singer/actress Alana Haim (“Licorice Pizza”). (A Boston.com reporter spotted Haim and Athie at the Somerville Theater before filming in October.)

Directed by Borgli (“Dream Scenario”), “The Drama” is produced by Ari Aster, who helped shape A24’s identity with horror hits like “Midsommar” and “Hereditary.”

This summer, local filmmakers began staffing the project, and location scouts began putting up signs in Back Bay and Charlestown in early September during pre-production.

Filming for “The Drama” is scheduled to take place in the fall and wrap up sometime in December.

The plot of “The Drama” is about a couple, played by Zendaya and Pattinson, who have to reckon with events from their past before they get married.

No release date has been set for The Drama yet, but barring delays in post-production, a 2025 release date seems likely.
