Rob Dillingham receives a big round of applause from the Target Center faithful and then scores the first points

With the Timberwolves firmly in control of Monday night's game against the Charlotte Hornets, rookie point guard Rob Dillingham made his way to the scorer's table at Target Center to report with over eight minutes left in the game.

The sold-out audience at Target Center was thrilled and gave the 19-year-old newcomer a loud ovation.

One game removed from his regular-season debut in the Wolves' loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, Dillingham scored his first NBA points in the Wolves' 114-93 win on Monday night in Minneapolis. Dillingham played eight minutes and finished the game with four points and two assists. He shot 2 of 3 and scored his first points with a smooth layup.

After the game, Donte DiVincenzo made sure to save the game ball for Dillingham.

Dillingham's path to consistent minutes is still pretty blocked. The Wolves have eight players that coach Chris Finch calls starters, and they all honestly deserve more than 30 minutes per game. But Dillingham showed a few glimpses of what could be to come Monday night, and while the neat layup move will be remembered, Finch watched his defense.

“I concentrate on defense. “I just want to see him have the ball and fight through the screens, take hits and go further,” Finch said after the game. “I thought he's really gotten better and better since the start of – actually since Summer League. And then you see the game, he has a lot of skill and I thought he really let the ball go and didn't use any violence. “It made really good decisions, played with the flow and that's really, really important.”
