DURHAM, N.H. — Freddie Camp recovered a fumble on a punt return for a touchdown as part of a 17-point third-quarter effort and Rhode Island beat New Hampshire 26-9 on Saturday.

Trailing 3-2 at halftime, the Rams nearly took the lead after Moses Meus blocked a New Hampshire punt that the Wildcats recovered in the end zone.

After Ty Groff's short field goal put Rhode Island (6-1, 3-0 Coastal Athletic Association) on top, the special teams came through again to take a 12-3 lead. The offense finally did its part when Devin Farrell hit Marquis Buchanan with a long bomb from 57 yards.

New Hampshire (4-3, 2-1) turned the ball over on downs deep in its own territory and the Rams iced the game by gaining 25 yards on three plays, the last three by Tommy Smith.

Matt Vezza threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Logan Tomlinson in the final minute for New Hampshire.

Malik Grant ran for 127 yards for the Rams, who had 171 yards on the ground. Two New Hampshire quarterbacks combined for 215 passing yards, but the Wildcats had just 20 yards rushing due to four sacks.

Both teams are in the bottom half of the FCS coaches poll.
