CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A Reds pitcher who hails from Cincinnati was named one of three finalists for an MLB award on Monday.

The Players Choice Awards are selected by a vote of their peers. The winners of this year's awards will be announced before World Series Game 2.

The finalists for the inaugural 2024 Philanthropist of the Year Award are Rhys Hoskins, Jose Trevino and Reds left-hander and Moeller alumnus Brent Suter. This award is given to the player who “best demonstrates an altruistic spirit and positive social impact beyond the diamond.”

According to MLB, Suter, 35, has contributed to the Baseball Island Foundation and its food program, which helps 43 low-income children in the Dominican Republic. Suter has worked with organizations such as La Soupe in Cincinnati, the Sam Hubbard Foundation and the Reds Community Fund. He regularly visits the Urban Youth Academy and Cincinnati Children's Hospital and works with the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League. Suter is also the author of a children's book entitled The Binky Bandit.
