Record high temperatures on Sunday, soon the coolest air of the season

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Unseasonably hot weather well into October will continue through the end of the weekend. We will feel some relief starting Monday as the coolest fall air sets in mid-week.

On Saturday, high pressure, sunny skies and a southerly breeze pushed our maximum temperatures to near record levels. We'll cool off nicely after sunset, with lows in the low to mid-60s and mostly clear skies Saturday evening.

South winds will increase to 10 to 20 mph Sunday in response to an approaching cold front. As a result, high temperatures Sunday will be several degrees warmer, pushing several areas into the mid-90s, making or breaking record highs across much of the ArkLaTex.

A cold front will shift our winds to the north on Sunday night, eliminating the unusual heat and any moisture that builds up on Sunday. We will see some relief on Monday, but Monday will remain warm with highs in the mid 80s. The cooler air will settle in Wednesday and Thursday, when highs are forecast to reach into the 70s. This should be our first real taste of fall in 2024. Most areas will be too dry to see any measurable rain, but there is a small chance of a few showers developing on Wednesday. Burn bans are always in place, with the most recent ban being issued for Panola County, Texas.

A dry and comfortable pattern will carry us into next Friday and Saturday, with highs near average in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
