Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona: Barca beat their rivals and are six points clear at the top of the league

3 minutes, 6 seconds Read

Robert Lewandowski scored twice in three second-half minutes to set Barcelona on their way to a 4-0 win over Real Madrid in El Clasico.

Lamine Yamal and Raphinha also scored and caused further suffering for Madrid, who had no chance in defense to force their way back into the game.

Los Blancos came into El Classico on a 42-game unbeaten run in La Liga, just one shy of Barcelona's own record.

Carlo Ancelotti's side could have been ahead before half-time, but Kylian Mbappe was caught offside six times and had a goal recorded.

The 36-year-old Lewandowski's experience showed in the second half when he beat the offside trap to break the deadlock and then scored a looping header three minutes later.

Lewandowski should have won the tie but missed two crucial chances, giving Madrid hope of fighting back.

However, Los Blancos were sent off twice more, with Yamal and Raphinha taking advantage to record a memorable win.

The result means Barcelona are now six points clear at the top of La Liga.

Topic of conversation – Barcelona hold their nerve to extend their lead

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick delivered a tactical masterstroke as his side ruthlessly ended their rivals' unbeaten run.

The visitors' high and tight defending meant that Mbappe was frustrated in the first half and was constantly offside.

Madrid were caught offside 12 times in the game and when they broke through, goalkeeper Inaki Pena was equal to their efforts.

Barcelona were ruthless on the counterattack in the second half and Lewandowski controlled his run perfectly to score the opening goal.

Lewandowski's quick second goal was the perfect moment for the visitors, who then eliminated their frustrated hosts on the counter-break.

Player of the Match – Inigo Martinez (Barcelona)

The 33-year-old was at the heart of a brilliant defensive performance against one of the world's most powerful attacks.

Martinez played a key role in Barcelona's victory, keeping the defensive line perfectly, constantly keeping Madrid offside.

When Vinicius Junior and Mbappe found a way through Martinez, he was there to overcome some excellent challenges.

Keeping a clean sheet at the Bernabeu was just as impressive as four goals from the other side.
